Can a climber rose be grown in a pot?
I have a ‘full sun’ issue where I live and I was wondering if I can transplant my Don Juan climber to a pot and be successful?
Can it be done and what size pot would you recommend?
Thanks Guys!
Miniature climbing roses can be grown in a pot, people in apartments do it all the time, and at the Lowe’s where I work at, we get these in all the time from our vendors to save room for our other plants, the thing is to just make sure you find a good spot for the rose to get enough sunlight.Do this outdoors if you can, this gets messy because of the drainage holes under the pots. Get a pot that is about 8″-10″ , if it happens to get bigger, you can always get another pot.mix several teaspoons of plant food (Osmocot or Miracle Grow works great) in a bucket of water according to the package, place the plant in there move the roots in a way where they will be able to be held down nice and neat once you move onto your other task. Mix garden and potting soil and peat moss in (equal amounts each) into the main pot where your rose will be living, fill halfway, then put the rose plant into the pot straight out of it’s plant food bath. Mix the remaining half of your soil with the plant food bath and then pour into your rose pot. (this is the messy part). Afterwards, insert a trelis (you can buy this at your local garden center usually Lowe’s and Home Depot sell them) they look like a little piece of wood fence, over time your rose should start to climb on it’s own as it grows towards the sunlight, Water everyday if you can for 2 weeks, and then every 3-4 days from then on as too much water can kill your rose, thats how fungus grows. Pheew, hope this helps and good luck!
